Selecting a Class Definition File

It is important to select a default class definition file.  Once a file is selected it will be used as the default for creating additional Events and/or Membership Files.

Select the Class Definitions option in the Setup Menu to select, view or modify the Class Definition file.

Note: if a class definition file is not loaded, a default internal set of class definitions will be used, based on 2001 SCCA classes. (If you are using a NCCC version the internal set of class is also based on 2001 NCCC classes)

Modifying the Class Definitions:

In the Class Definitions dialog select the appropriate class definition file (*.def) using the Browse button.  One a file is selected you can carry out edits to the listed classes, adding new ones or deleting classes that are no longer required.

The order of the classes in the table will dictate the order sort order of the classes throughout the application, including on final reports and the Class Tree Views, at the right of the main window.

The Class Control menu provides print and additional file control functions.  You can use the File Save As function to save the data to a different file name.

Below is a more detail explanation of the class definition dialog.

  • Class - Abbreviation for a defined class. There are 2 types of classes, Base classes and Pax Classes (for entries with the Pax? column selected).  Classes may consist of any combinations of characters and numbers.
  • Class Name - Verbose description of the class
  • Factor - a numerical value that is used to equalize all classes, based on statistical data. The fastest cars have a factor = 1.000 (i.e. the factored time = raw time). Slower classes have factors that are based on their relative speed (in percentage) of the fastest car, and thus have factors less then 1.000. For example. From the table above, AS is 82.8% (factor = 0.828) slower than AM.

Both Base classes and Pax classes can both contain a non-zero factor.  If a Pax Class has a non-zero factor, it's factor and the respective Base Class factor are used to generate a Total Time (let's call this Double Pax).  For example: For Novice or Street Tire classes, an additional factor can be specified to account speed differences between Street Tires versus Racing Tires.  If for example, street tires are considered 3% slower, a Street Tire Class factor of 0.970 can be applied. The resulting times for any cars in the Street Tire Pax Class will be calculated using the factor *0.970 and the factor from the Base Class.  Consider the following: TAS (where 'T' = Street tire class). If a car in TAS gets a raw time of 65.123, the resulting time is 65.123 * 0.828 * 0.970 = 52.304

Note:  For clubs that do not use pax factors, should set all factors = 1.000, for all the defined classes.

  • Pax? - if checked, represents a Paxed Class definition. Pax Classes are used to group entries from various classes into a single class and applying the Base Class Factors to equalize all the Total times for each entry. Thus dissimilar cars can be mathematically compared and can therefore run in the same class (group).

To create Entries for a Pax Class, the Pax Class is used as Prefix to any defined Base Class Definition (and must be non-pax).

Note: Prior to version v5.10.014, pax factors were defined by single character prefixes had to contain a Pax Factor = 0.000. This differs from the current definition in several ways. Any class can be selected as a 'Pax' class and may contain it's own Pax factor (double pax). This factor will be applied in addition to the normal Class Factor respectively.

  • Non-Points? - If checked, the class will NOT be used in Points calculations.
  • Exclude? - If checked, the class will NOT be used any generated Results.
  • Class Group - enter a group name to associate with a set of classes. You may enter any text as the group name. Once created the name be selected from the pull down list or auto-completion by typing the leading characters of the name.
