Registering Entrants
| We are now ready to enter new entries into the Registration
List. The Registration list is the data center of the system. All
entries flagged as racing will also appear in the Class Tree Views (in the Workspace
Control bar). All entries at an event must be entered into the
Registration List. Only existing entries from the Registration List
can be Staged in the Staging Grid. However, it is a fairly easy to
insert new entries at any time, even during the event (without the need to
stop or slow things down).
The Class Tree Views provide several different views of the registered
cars consisting of Class by Number or Number by Class listings. Two are Heat based
and 2 will list all entries registered for the event. The intent of
the Class Tree Views is to provide a list view of all registered entries
and provide quick access functions to manipulate an entry.
These functions are invoked by the right-mouse or by double-clicking on an
entry. These functions are described
later in the tutorial.
|
 |
Select the Insert New Entry
from the Edit menu (or use the appropriate Toolbar button).
The New Entry dialog, shown to on the left, will be displayed.
There are several ways to enter new entries:
- via the menu as shown here. (Hotkey Ctrl-I).
- right mouse button
functions from the Class and Number Tree View.
- right mouse button from the Registration List.
- The toolbar button (using the same icon seen to the left of the menu option).
Also: Editing an entry can be done in-place in the registration grid or
you can pop up an Edit dialog, using the Edit menu, right mouse functions or
Ctrl-E. It will present an identical dialog. Make your edits and press save.
Note: Pressing Done will ignore any edits you have just carried out,
unless you press the Save button first.
Also: Please check the Edit menu for other useful Hot-Keys.

The New Registration Entry Dialog
The New Registration Entry dialog provides the basic
data requirements for entering a new car.
- Pax field - contains a pull-down list that contains the prefixes
for all your pax classes.
- Class field - contains a pull-down that contains a list of all the defined classes
(those defined in the Class Definition File). (mandatory)
- Number field - car number. (for the tutorial we have not
set the Unique Car Numbers option in the Options Tabs, so the class
and car number pairing must be unique. If the Unique Car Numbers
was active, then a unique car number must be supplied across all the
entries). (mandatory)
- Driver (optional)
- Car (optional)
- Registered - automatically checked for all new
entries and represents the entry as being registered for the event.
- Member - if this is check it represents a
member in your club. It is important to check this if your
club supports a Point Championship for it's membership.
- The other buttons and controls is discussed in more detail in the
documentation. In short the Previous Rec and Next Rec buttons
allow you to move up and down in the Registration list. A car
must be in focus or loaded prior to these buttons having any affect,
which simply means a car had to be registered or loaded to establish
the current location in the Registration List. The Re-class
button allows you to re-class the currently loaded entry.
If you enter a car that already exists (based on the
class and number or only on the number in cases where you have selected
the Unique Car Number option), the entry will be loaded automatically and
ready for edit.
Any changes you make must be followed by clicking on the Save button to
force the entry to either be inserted or modified. As mentioned above,
pressing Done will ignore any current and the current entry altogether,
unless you press Save first.

The Main Screen after a few Registered Entries
You can see that the
Registration Grid and the Class Views now contain 6 entries. Notice
the Workspace control bar now contains entries for all 6 cars. Also:
the number of columns displayed has been reduced and many columns have been
hidden (see Hiding
and Viewing columns for more information).
We are now ready to Staging Entries and obtaining timing data. |
 |
Here's the Number View Tree list
with all the registered entries. It has been expanded in order to
show the titles of the 4 different Class view lists (at the bottom of the
Window) and the File View tab.
By default, if the Unique Car Number option is not
selected, the same car numbers can be used in any class. If Unique Car Numbers
options is active, then each
car number can only exist for all the registered entries.
Note: If the current active Heat = All (in the Staging Window) the Heat
Class and Heat Number views are identical to the Class View and Number
view, respectively.

Editing Registrations - in-place Editing
|
Editing entries can be done in the Registration Grid
itself or by selecting an existing entry in the Insert New Entry dialog
and using the Modify button.
Editing in
place is respective to the 3 basic cell types used by AXWare For Windows. Each
provides specialized data entry. These types are: string cells, pull-down
lists, and check boxes. In
addition, there are two modes of editing that allow you to manipulate the
grid cells.
Below is a description of the different
types of cells used by AXWRATS and how they are manipulated in-place.
Note: Grayed out columns are not editable and are considered read-only
columns. Examples: class, car number, and the Timing columns are read-only columns.
To change a Classing you must Re-Class an
entry.
Edit mode and Normal mode:
The default mode (Normal mode) in a Grid provides
movement control in the grid using the cursor keys. The Edit mode
selects a cell for editing and modifications.
Edit mode is selected by
pressing <enter> or double clicking the left mouse button,
while positioned on a cell. It is also entered if you start typing
while on the cell. <ESC>
must be used to return to the Normal mode once your editing is complete.
When in Edit mode and you can also move around the grid but each cell
will remain in Edit mode, until you press the <ESC> key.
This permits you to make multiple edits to subsequent columns simply by
moving from cell to cell.
Editing a String Based
Data Cell:
Data manipulation of string style
data (class, name, car description, penalties etc) is the easiest data
type to control.
-
Entering new data or overwriting:
select the appropriate field, and type the new data. When
done, press <ESC>.
-
Edit an entry: select
the appropriate field, press the <enter> key to enter
into the Edit Mode. When done, then press <ESC>.
Pull-Down Lists:
The pull-down lists are selection lists. Some
pull-down lists are editable selection lists, meaning that you can
either type data into them or select data from the provided list.
For example: the Class
and Car Number fields of the Staging Grid are combination data fields
that allow you to enter data (as normal string type) or select
entries from the pull-down. Setting the focus
onto the 'pull-down list arrow' will expose the pull-down list.
Using the mouse click on the pull-down list arrow or pressing
<enter> to force the list to display. Make
your selection from the items on the list (using the arrow keys or the
1st character of an item) and press <enter> to close the
selection list. The
selected item will now appear in the data field.
Check Boxes:
Check boxes are identical to
Windows-based check boxes. The
only additional feature is a
multi-selection capability that allows you to select many
consecutive rows and force the check boxes to the same setting. To do
this, set your focus to the appropriate row, hold the left mouse button
down and move the mouse up or down to the desired row, positioned on a
check box column. Release
the mouse button and the check boxes will toggle for all selected rows.
You can also use
the <ctrl> key and single click on only the rows you
require (random selection). Then press the appropriate check box
to force all the entries to that setting. Example: very useful for
selecting registered entries (racing column) or Member data columns in the
Registration Grid.
