Tutorial - Page 9

Timing and Penalty Control

If you are using timers, the Finishing time for each entry will automatically be placed into the next available (empty) Time field of the Staging Grid.

If you are using Manual Time entry mode, then you must select the appropriate entry (row) into which to enter timing data.

Once a Time is recorded, or entered, the Standings will automatically be reflected in the Registration/Standings Grid as well as the statistical data in the Staging Grid.  In addition, the Staging status Window (at the bottom) of the screen, will present real-time standings as well, which can be useful for announcing purposes. The image below, demonstrates many of the features of the program:

  1. 1st run for 'bs 9' was a DNF.
  2. The Status log shows folks moving around in the standings and taking TTOD and TPOD honors. The TTOD and TPOD are also displayed at the top of the Registration Window and is also printed on the final results.
  3. The Staging log provides standings information and various items of interest, including whether the run was an improvement or not, the new position, time + penalty, the pax time, and differentials. Similar information is reflected in the statistics in the Staging Window.
  4. For demonstration purposes the The Registration/Standing Grid only displays Timing related columns.
  5. The Registration Window provides a real-time view of the current standings and runs for each entry. In addition, the Pos. column (Position column) shows the current position and trophy positions (marked with an *).

Entering Penalties

Penalties are entered into the Penalty column of the Staging Grid and can represent pylon counts as we well abbreviated penalties that  represent:
  1. Did-Not-Finish (dnf - x) - did not execute the course correctly.
  2. Off course (off - o - special dnf) - car went off course and cannot trip the finish lights. Thus is it necessary to manual handle this contidion.
  3. reruns (rrn - r).
  4. Disqualified (dsq). (Entering this penalty on any run will DSQ the entry from the event).

Each abbreviated penalty has a hot-key (a single character that represents that penalty) to help speed up data entry of penalties. If the hotkeys are used they will be expanded automatically into their expanded acronym versions.  The default definitions of the penalties are shown above, and can be tailored using the Penalty Assignments setup options.  The tutorial uses the default settings.

Also: Each pylon represents a 2 second penalty by default. If you enter 2 in the penalty field, presenting 2 pylons, the Total time for that run would be adjusted by +4 seconds.   The number of seconds per pylon can be configured via the Penalty Assignments tab as well.

As you can see the Registration/Standings Grid records the Time and Penalty fields into separate data columns, while the Total Time field represents the Best Time, including any penalties.
