Barcode support is provided for both the Membership and Event Files and provide additional control for printing the barcode labels on normal printers as well as dedicated label printers. Details are provided below.
Barcode printing generates Code39 style barcodes which can be scanned by any scanner that connects to the computer via a RS232 Serial port (including connecting via a USB-Serial port adapter).
The benefits of using barcodes during an event is to improve consistency, efficiency and the speed at which cars may be registered and staged. The largest benefit is during staging.
Scanning cars on the staging line frees up the Timing person to deal with timing issues (penalties, reruns, event control, etc.). It improves accuracy, consistency and drastically reduces the amount of work necessary to stage folks into the computer. Data entry for staging entries is minimized and only necessary if an entry does not have a barcode label. |
